Title: Multi-Channel Slotted Cognitive Medium Access

Abstract:
Cognitive radio is a promising technology to solve the potential spectrum scarcity problem in the near future. In a cognitive radio network, unlicensed users (termed secondary users or cognitive users) can get access to licensed spectrum when licensed users (termed primary users) are not active. In this talk, channel sensing problems are considered in multi-channel slotted cognitive medium access control, in which channel time is partitioned into slots. Two scenarios are discussed: single-sensing and multi-sensing scenarios where each time slot starts with one and multiple sensing periods, respectively. Medium access protocols are designed using a reinforcement machine learning approach for the single-sensing scenario, while the optimal or near-optimal sensing order for the channels to be sensed in each time slot is derived for the multi-sensing scenario.
