Bio:
E.C. Shang received the B.S. degree in theoretical physics from the department of Physics, Beijing University, Beijing China, in 1958. Since then, he worked on underwater acoustics and wave propagation at the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Science. He was the Deputy Director of the Institute of Acoustics (1982-1986). He worked as a Visiting Professor at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, UCSD, University of Wisconsin, and Yale University from 1982-1987. He worked as a research Professor at University of Colorado and NOAA/ETL from 1987 to 2001. He was a Research Adviser of the National Research Council (NRC) Postdoctoral program at ETL/NOAA. Now, he is a Guest Professor at the Key Lab, of Underwater Acoustic Environment at the Institute of Acoustics. He is the author of numerous papers and a coauthor (with Prof. T.C. Wang) of Underwater Acoustics (Science Press, Beijing, 1981). He was the winner of the National Natural Science Prize of China in 1982 and 1989. He has been a Fellow of the ASA since 1984. He served as the Editors-in-chief of Journal of Computational Acoustics from 1996 to 2001. His research interest includes shallow-water acoustics, source localization in waveguide and ocean acoustic tomography.
