Dr. Tom H. Luan is the Lecturer in Mobile and Apps associated with the School of Information Technology at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. He received the B.E. degree from the Xi'an Jiaotong University, China, in 2004, the Master degree from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, in 2007, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 2012, all in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Dr. Luan’s research mainly focuses on the content distribution and media streaming in the vehicular ad hoc networks and peer-to-peer networking, protocol design and performance evaluation of wireless cloud computing and fog computing. Dr. Luan has authored/coauthored around 25 journal papers and 15 technical papers in conference proceedings, and awarded one US patent. He served as a TPC member for IEEE Globecom, ICC, PIMRC and the technical reviewer for multiple IEEE Transactions including TMC, TPDS, TVT, TWC and ITS.

Mobile electronics and applications now pervade our daily lives every aspects, revolutionizing the way we work and live. On each passing day, mobile applications may connect with other devices to read our heartbeat and track our health conditions, adjusting the temperature and light of our room, coercing us to take morning walk, offering a different route that will help us avoid the rush hour traffic, and gaining artificial intelligence by understanding our mobilities, gestures and social activities. In this talk, we are going to discuss on the main research issues in mobile computing and introduce some emerging technologies and applications in mobile computing, including augment reality, crowdsourcing, RFID and cloud computing.
